They Might Be Giants

They Might Be Giants

Formed in 1981, They Might Be Giants are proof that originality, plus a sense of humour and a knack for writing catchy songs can be a recipe for long-lasting success in the music business.

After a few years creating an underground following around Manhattan, the band signed to Elektra records in 1990 and released their breakthrough album Flood in 1990. Singles Birdhouse in Your Soul and Istanbul (Not Constantinople) helped the album to achieve gold status.

This was followed by 1992's Apollo 18, which although slightly less successful, was well received, partly as a result of classic pop tracks like I Palindrome I, My Evil Twin and She's Actual Size.

The arrival of Grunge dampened the music press's burgeoning interest, but in the band's track Boss of Me was used on the title credits for the hit TV show Malcolm in the Middle and sparked a new generation of fans' interest in the band, and interest that has been tapped in to by recent releases for children No! Bed Bed Bed and Here Come the ABC's.
