Qualia
Qualia is the debut exhibition of Fantom Ferment, an international art collective formed by Jasminka Letzas and Annalisa Simonella, including paintings, textiles and costumes.
Through multiple mediums, our work reflects a fascination with the elusive, exploring the notion of the "phantom" as a metaphor for the hidden forces that shape the past, the present, and the future. We delve into the realms of the imperceptible, inviting our audience to acknowledge the invisible inhabitants that coexist with us and in our worlds.
The theme of "fermenting" runs through our collective body of work, symbolising the ubiquitous nature of change. Much like the process of fermentation, our art undergoes transformation, revealing layers of meaning and complexity over time.
Fantom Ferment is formed by:
Jasminka Letzas, a Berlin-born artist who graduated from Central Saint Martins and later completed the Turps Banana Painting Programme (2019-2022) in London, has garnered attention for her unique approach to painting, which blends her background in film and moving image with her love for the medium of paint.
Annalisa Simonella is an Italian artist and designer residing in Glasgow, her background (as allenomis) lies at the intersection of fashion and costume design, her creative journey weaves together the strands of sustainability, social consciousness, and a profound exploration of the invisible narratives embedded in our surroundings.
