Jimmy Eat World

Jimmy Eat World

US quartet Jimmy Eat World draw on first-wave emo, pop punk and classic indie to create earnest, hook-laden alt rock. The band broke through to the mainstream with their seminal 2000 album Bleed American and hit single ‘The Middle’.

Jimmy Eat World formed in Mesa, Arizona in 1993, taking their name from a drawing by guitarist Tom Linton’s younger brother Ed that depicted a third brother Jim eating the world. Linton teamed up with bassist Mitch Porter, vocalist/guitarist Jim Adkins and drummer Zach Lind to record a demo, followed by their debut EP One, Two, Three, Four in 1994.

Porter was replaced by Rich Burch ahead of the band signing with Capitol Records for their 1996 debut album Static Prevails. Adkins took over sole frontman duties for the 1998 follow-up Clarity, which saw the band start to grow in popularity, partly thanks to the inclusion of the single ‘Lucky Denver Mint’ on the soundtrack to the film Never Been Kissed.

Jimmy Eat World’s major breakthrough came via the Platinum album Bleed American in 2001. The album boasted even bigger hooks than its predecessor and singles ‘Bleed American’, ‘A Praise Chorus’ and ‘The Middle’ garnered extensive airplay on MTV, the latter peaking at No.5 on the US single charts.

Jimmy Eat World toured extensively in support of Bleed American before returning in 2004 with their fourth studio album Futures. Chase This Light followed in 2007 and the band maintained their three-year schedule throughout the next decade, releasing Invented in 2010, Damage in 2013, Integrity Blues in 2016 and Surviving in 2019.

A series of singles marked the band’s return in 2022, kicked off by ‘Something Loud’ in June. The band were quickly back on the road, touring with Manchester Orchestra, Middle Kids and My Chemical Romance in 2023.

In 2024, Jimmy Eat World announced a UK tour with support from Canadian punks PUP. The tour would include their biggest UK headline show to date at London's Alexandra Palace.
